Codes, Ordinances, & Resolutions

The Shoreline Municipal Code is a continuously evolving document made up of ordinances adopted by the City Council. These ordinances set standards to maintain safety and protect quality of life in Shoreline.

Copies of ordinances and resolutions are available through the City Clerk's Office, (206) 546-5042, or by email. Land use action notices, other public notices, and Council meeting records are available at the Shoreline Libraries and neighborhood centers as well as through this Web site.   You may also review any of these documents at City Hall.

The Shoreline Municipal Code is available online through the Municipal Research and Services Center of Washington.  Review copies are available at City Hall, Shoreline's libraries and neighborhood centers.  A complete copy of the Municipal Code may be purchased through the Code Publishing Company, (206) 527-6831.

If you would like to request records not available on this Web site, you may do so using a Request for Disclosure of Public Records form.

It is City policy to handle all requests for public records uniformly, fairly and expeditiously. The City responds to requests for public records under the provisions of the Washington State Public Disclosure Law (RCW 42.56). The intent of the law is to promote public access to information about the conduct of government at all levels, while at the same time protecting an individual's right to privacy.

Requests for records can be made in person, by telephone, by mail or by fax.  Requests are forwarded to the City Clerk, who consults with the City Attorney for an opinion when necessary.

Within five business days after the City receives the written request, the City Clerk either:

  • Provides the record;

  • Acknowledges that the City has received the request and provides a reasonable estimate of the time the City will require in order to respond to the request; or

  • Denies the request.

If the request is denied, the City will respond in writing, cite the legal exemption, and explain how the exemption applies to the request.

There is a $.15 per page copying charge for paper records of more than five pages. Fees for the provision of other types of records, e.g., maps or CDs, are established by City ordinance.

If you have questions regarding records, contact the City's Records and Information Manager at (206) 546-8648.
