Cromwell Park Improvements

Status
As of May 2008
Phase: Design

Design continues in accordance with the Council-approved master plan. Construction of the project is anticipated in summer 2009. A joint project with the Storm Water Utility, this project includes all three Cromwell Park CIP storm water projects. The Design Consultants took public input and the PRCS Board input from meetings in late 2007 to develop the Final Master Plan.

Overview & History
In May 2006, Shoreline voters approved a bond issue to acquire park property and improve parks throughout the community. One element of that bond was to make recreational improvements to Cromwell Park. In addition, the Surface Water Utility needed to make improvements to the storm system in the area surrounding the park. Jointly funded by both the Parks Bond Levy and the Surface Water Utility, this project will create much needed recreational and storm water improvements. Storm water improvements will include creating storm water detention, water quality treatment, and wetland areas in the park. Recreational improvements will include installing an irrigated sports field, walking paths/trails, play equipment, natural area enhancements, restroom, signage, landscaping, additional parking, picnic facilities, benches and water fountains. A community-driven master plan process is underway to provide a guiding document for improvements.

Cromwell Park is located in the central portion of the City in the Meridian Park neighborhood.  The park is composed of two separate parcels.  The northern portion is a large, open area. The ball field, drainage and irrigation systems and turf is in poor condition.  The southern portion is a small, heavily wooded area lacking significant development.  The neighborhood surrounding the park consists primarily of single-family homes.  King County District Court building is located on the north and west boundary of the park.
