Dayton Avenue N / N 175th Street Improvements (formally known as the Dayton Retaining Wall)

Dayton Avenue N / N 175th Street Improvements Project is located on Dayton Avenue N. between St. Luke Place and N. 172nd Street.
Status
April 2008
Construction is nearly complete on the Dayton Avenue N Project. Work was suspended for fabrication of the new handrail that will be placed on the top of the new wall. The handrail is expected to be fabricated and installed in late May. This summer, N 172nd Street and Dayton Avenue N from N 172nd to St. Luke Place will be overlayed which will complete the improvements in this area.
The City of Shoreline is replacing a deteriorating 50-year-old, 150-foot long timber pile wall that supports Dayton Avenue N on the west side. Besides the retaining wall, construction includes new sidewalks, curbs and gutters along the west side of Dayton Avenue from N 172nd Street to St. Luke Place and along the north side of N 172nd Street from Dayton Ave N to Fremont Avenue N. Street trees will also be planted and paved on-street parking will be provided along the north side of N 172nd Street.
Overview & History
The City of Shoreline is looking at options for the long-term maintenance of the retaining wall on Dayton Avenue N. near N. 172nd Street.
Deterioration of the 50-year-old timber pile wall has been repaired over the years. Shoreline has dedicated money in the Capital Improvement Program to either continue repairs or to possibly replace the wall, depending on the cost. To get an accurate estimate of the cost of replacing the wall, the City recently issued a Request for Qualifications for design.
The retaining wall supports Dayton Avenue N. on the west side and is approximately 150 long and eight plus feet tall at its highest point. The design will also include sidewalks along the west side of Dayton from N. 172nd Street to St. Luke Place and along N. 172nd Street from Dayton to Fremont.
