Annual Traffic Count Program
The City of Shoreline’s Annual Traffic Count Program collects traffic data from a variety of locations throughout the City. This data is collected when vehicles pass over two (2) hollow hoses placed in the roadway which are connected to an electronic traffic counter. As each vehicle passes over the hoses, both a number count and the vehicle's speed are recorded (the speed is recorded as the vehcile passes from one hose to the next hose).
The traffic data includes information about average traffic volumes, intersection turning movements and traffic speeds. The information collected through this program helps the City monitor changing traffic conditions from year-to-year and help plan future capital projects.
The City of Shoreline also collects additional traffic data for capital projects. Information collected for capital projects is not included in the Annual Traffic Count Program report, but is available through the capital project manager responsible for the project.
