Opening in association with the 2012 Shoreline Arts Festival:
"Desire lines" are the paths that pedestrians make when they deviate from an official path. A desire line is typically the most direct or easiest path to navigate between two points. Its width, depth, and degree of definition represent the amount and frequency of use and can reveal a history specific to the use and character of a particular site.
The Unearth Collective has located significant desire lines within the Meridian Park neighborhood of Shoreline and has connected these desire lines to form a walking route (approximately 3.1 miles - 5k) through the area. Along the walking route, they have created temporary installations that highlight and reinterpret these pedestrian-made lines. A printed guide of the route, along with site-specific historic narratives and 'facts' about sites along the route and QR codes linking to an optional walk soundtrack, will be available at the Shoreline Arts Festival on June 23 and 24; at Shoreline City Hall, Shoreline Library, Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council; and downloadable here: www.TheUnearthCollective.com.
Desire Lines will be on view for the public from June 23 through July 31, 2012.
