Shoreline City Council Recap for January and February 2012
The City Council needs your input. Throughout 2012 the City will be gathering citizen input on setting goals and creating policies that are specifically intended to support the realization of Shoreline’s Vision 2029. As part of that process, City staff have designed a Speaker Series for 2012 that will bring enlightening and inspiring speakers to Shoreline with hopes of growing ideas within the community that will lead to actualizing Vision 2029. Following the speaker’s presentation, attendees will be invited to mingle and share ideas with staff and other participants. These ideas will be transformed into new goals and policies for the Comprehensive Plan that will guide future decisions made by City officials and staff.
The Comprehensive Plan is the primary tool used by local governments to guide decisions regarding the use of land, housing, transportation, community design, economic development, infrastructure and natural resources. As stated in the City’s vision, “the people of Shoreline are committed to making the City even better for the next generation.” Check the City’s website and future issues of Currents for the Speakers’ Series schedule and other Comprehensive Planning events in 2012. Action Taken
- Authorized City Manager to execute a contract with The Watershed Company for the design of Meridian Park Wetland Drainage Improvement Project.
- Authorized City Manager to execute an agreement with the Transportation Improvement Board to obligate $6 million for the Aurora Corridor Project – 192nd to 205th Streets.
- Adopted the Vision and Phase 1 Master Plan for the Park at Town Center.
- Authorized City Manager to execute the 2012 contracts with the Shoreline Historical Museum and the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council.
- Adopted Ordinance No. 625 amending the Shoreline Municipal Code regarding medical cannabis collective gardens by extending interim land use controls for six months and adopting a new regulatory license for collective gardens.
- Adopted Ordinance No. 626 establishing procedures for the disposition of surplus real property.
- Adopted the 2012-2017 Economic Development Strategic Plan.
- Adopted Resolution No. 321 authorizing a one-year extension of the interfund loan to the Roads Capital Fund from the Revenue Stabilization Fund in an amount not to exceed $2.5 million with interest charges for the extension period.
- Adopted Resolution No. 322 declaring support for marriage equality in Washington, urging the Washington State Legislature to the marriage equality bill and urging United States Congress to pass the Respect for Marriage Act, which would overturn federal Defense of Marriage Act.
- Authorize City Manager to execute the 2012 Seattle-King County Department of Public Health Local Hazardous Waste Management Program grant, King County Solid Waste Division Waste Reduction and Recycling Grant Agreement and 2012-2013 State Department of Ecology Coordinated Prevention Grant Agreement.
- Adopted Ordinance No. 628 reclassifying the Assistant Director of Planning & Community Development to Planning Manager within City’s classification and compensation plan.
- Adopted Resolution No. 323 amending employee handbook policies regarding use of communication systems, use of family leave and work breaks.
- Adopted Ordinance No. 617 designating the PRCS Director as the responsible individual for the management of city-owned public trees and designating the PRCS Board as the City’s Tree Board.
- Adopted Ordinance No. 627 clarifying the process for obtaining a right-of-way use permit for the planting, pruning and removing of City street trees.
- Appointed four new planning commissioners to the Planning Commission.
- Adopted Ordinance No. 629 amending Planning and Development Services Fees for Administrative Design Review.
- Adopted the 2012 Comprehensive Plan amendment docket.
